Welcome to Bytes, Bread, and Barbecue: Where Tech Meets Toast and Tongs
Posted by Ross Contino – June 5, 2025
Greetings, fellow nerds, kneaders, and grill masters!
You’ve stumbled onto Bytes, Bread, and Barbecue—a site that’s equal parts bash shell and dough, kernel and charcoal, command line and char-grilled ribs. If that sounds like a strange combo, well… you’ve clearly never tried configuring a Linux distro while smoking a brisket. It’s a spiritual experience.
Let me introduce myself: I’m Ross. I’m a retired emergency physician with a second act as an information systems grad and lifelong tinkerer. Over the years I’ve written more macros, scripts, and Java apps than I care to count. But when I’m not troubleshooting code, I’m either baking crusty loaves of bread or perfecting my backyard barbecue technique.
So why this site?
Because I believe that a good life is built on a solid foundation of open-source software, fresh bread, and meat that’s been smoked low and slow.
Here’s what you can expect on this blog:
- Linux and Programming Posts – Whether you’re configuring Arch on old hardware or building JavaScript apps for fun or profit, I’ll share tools, tips, and code with a side of humor.
- Bread Baking – From artisan dough to foolproof sandwich loaves, you’ll find recipes, experiments, and the occasional flour-dusted keyboard.
- Barbecue Adventures – Grills, smokers, marinades, and misadventures with fire. Warning: may induce hunger.
Think of this as your neighbor’s garage—with a laptop running Ubuntu, a Dutch oven cooling on the counter, and the unmistakable smell of hickory smoke in the air.
So grab a coffee (or a spatula), and let’s dig in.
